Coastline Forestry Consultants have been working with Geographic Information Systems (GIS) in the forest industry since 1994. Originally our focus was on obtaining basemap information (e.g. roads, streams, contours, DEM, etc.), selecting appropriate GIS software (e.g. ArcInfo, ArcView, MapInfo), and organizing everything into a working GIS solution.

Since most companies are now actively employing basic GIS, our focus has shifted to advancing the use of new technologies to help solve old problems.

Custom ortho-corrected aerial photography

Another problem that inventory foresters have is the need to regularly update timber type basemaps to reflect recent harvest activity and road construction. Coastline Forestry Consultants has teamed up with TimberDrone to provide state-of-the-art custom aerial photographs and videos. This enables resource managers to make decisions based on the most detailed and current aerial imagery available.
